Berlin Wall Remembered

Excerpted from Online Athens:
The fall of the Berlin Wall on Nov. 9, 1989, was a momentous event.

East Germans danced atop the Berlin Wall with their West German neighbors as the longstanding dividing line came crashing down in a televised celebration 20 years ago this week.

In Athens, University of Georgia football coach Ray Goff (remember him?) prepared his Bulldogs for what ended up as a rousing 17-10 victory over the Florida Gators.

The same year, Rolling Stone magazine readers voted The B-52s' "Love Shack" the top song of 1989.

Filmed just up the road in Atlanta, "Driving Miss Daisy" won the 1989 Oscar for Best Picture.

Gas was $1.20 a gallon for regular; you could buy a Ford Festiva (remember those?) at Trussell Ford-Mazda for $5,498.
