After passing through Europe and South America and visiting the following countries: Germany, Denmark, Norway, Argentina, Chile, Brazil. The band keeps the show going into the fall with shows near home at Brooklyn, NY, Glenside, PA, and Port Chester, NY.

On Friday August 24th, 2012 to kick off the College Football Season, the B-52s descended upon Gulf Shores to a crowd of thousands.  Next up on the schedule is Pomona, CA on September the 7th.

The next leg of their annual tour brings them to California, Nevada, and a smattering of Colorado cities in who could use some good entertainment.

B-52s' Fred Schneider Gets Booed on 'Rock Band'

When B-52s frontman Fred Schneider tried to cover himself on the video game 'Rock Band,' he got sacked.

"I sang 'Love Shack' and got booed off the stage," he tells Spinner. "I was like, 'Well, screw this.'"

It's no surprise that 'Love Shack' would appear on a video game. After all, the quirky party song has long been a karaoke favorite. "We had a wedding party, and I walked by and they were paying 'Love Shack,'" says Schneider, who is currently promoting his side project, the Superions. "They wanted me to sing with them."

Schneider passed on karaoke 'Love Shack,' but he and his friends have been known to belt out a few covers. "I won't do karaoke now unless I know no one knows who I am," he said. "And what we do is sing really cheesy songs really horribly: 'Laughter in the Rain,' 'It's My Party' and 'Not Invited.' We just ruin them -- and have a good time doing it."

But back to 'Rock Band': After Schneider got booed for his take on Fred Schneider, he decided to turn to a more traditional game.

"I said, 'To hell with this -- let's go back to 'Catch Phrase,'" he says. "I love word games."

Even though he's had a couple of songs about nude beaches, don't expect to see Fred Schneider walking in the buff any time soon.

"I'm a lot more modest now, with cell phones," he tells Spinner, citing a fear that someone would take a photo of him naked. "If there's an unflattering photo of me, they'll put it on the Internet."

Musically, his first trip to a nude beach came with the B-52s' song 'Theme From a Nude Beach' from the band's 'Cosmic Thing' album. More recently, he revisited the nudist lifestyle with 'Totally Nude Island,' a song with his side project, the Superions, which includes Noah Brodie and Dan Marshall.

B-52s Reminisce About Their Early Days
In the '70s, the B-52s were just a group of friends who enjoyed jamming together -- until Fred Schneider told someone they were actually a band.


"Fred had mentioned to a good friend of ours, 'We have a band,'" guitarist Keith Strickland tells Spinner. "We did, but we didn't really think of it like that. And she said, 'Oh, I'm having a Valentine's Day party -- do you want to play?'"
